The Mental and Physical Stress Relief initiative helps to relieve mental, physical, and emotional stress of youth in Clarksdale, MS. Our efforts will decrease violence in schools and boost academic success amongst participants. Programs include yoga sessions, and group meetings addressing mental health concerns and solutions. We will also support young people with their unique needs by offering one-on-one mentoring.
According to the National Institute of Health, nearly one in three of all adolescents ages 13-18 will experience an anxiety disorder. 73% percent of young people who have stress that impacts their mental health. The Mental and Physical Stress Relief Initiative will help to relieve mental, physical, and emotional stress of youth in Clarksdale, MS.
This student driven initiative will include yoga sessions, one-on-one mentoring, and four community group meetings, all addressing mental health. We plan to serve twenty students in grades 7-12. We will cater to the unique needs of each program participant by providing one-on-one mentoring and a variety of group activities. Our efforts will decrease violence in schools and boost academic success amongst participants. We will measure this by analyzing student academic data and behavior incident reports from the school.
With the help of our supporters, our goal is to raise $1,500 to promote events, offer nutritious snacks, and hire high-quality instructors to lead our yoga sessions and group meetings addressing mental health concerns and healthy solutions. We plan to recruit volunteer community members to serve as mentors for our youth.

A 1 on 1 mentoring program for up to 30 students (in partnership with the Griot Youth Program Staff)
T-Shirts for the first 20 participants
